Keyword gap analyzer
Paste the keywords you rank for and the keywords your competitors rank for. The analyzer shows which searches competitors win and you miss, which you share and which only you own, ranked by an opportunity score.
How to use it
- Paste your keywords, one per line. Add “, volume” if you know monthly searches.
- Paste each competitor's keywords and rename the competitor fields.
- Sort the results by opportunity and focus on “missing (strong)” first.
- Export to CSV to plan pages.
Method
Keywords are normalised to lower case. A keyword is “missing (strong)” when at least half of the competitors (minimum two) target it and you do not, “missing” when fewer do, “shared” when you and competitors both target it and “unique” when only you do. The opportunity score multiplies a log-scaled search volume by how many competitors target the keyword; keywords without volume count as mid-volume.
Worked example
You target “crm for small business” and “free crm”. Two of three competitors target “sales pipeline software” (1,900 searches): it appears as missing (strong) with a high opportunity score.
How to read the result
Group related missing keywords and create one strong page per group (a service page, a comparison page or a guide) rather than one page per keyword.
Limitations
- The tool compares the lists you paste; it does not fetch rankings.
- Volumes from different tools are not comparable; use one source.
- Intent matters more than volume: a small transactional keyword can beat a large informational one.
